Aberrant expression of microRNA-150-5p (miR-150-5p) plays a critical function in the pathogenesis of human malignancies. However, its biological function and underlying mechanism in multiple myeloma (MM) are poorly understood. The goal of this study is to explore how miR-150-5p functions biologically in MM. The expression of miR-150-5p was measured using the qRT-PCR approach. In vitro tests were conducted to investigate the function of miR-150-5p on cell growth and apoptosis using cell proliferation assay kit and annexin V-FITC and propidium iodide staining followed by flow cytometry analysis, respectively. MiR-150-5p was underexpressed in MM samples and cell lines. Restoration of miR-150-5p significantly reduced the proliferation of U266 MM cells. However, no changes were observed in the percentage of apoptotic cells when miR-150-5p was restored in the cells. Collectively, this research suggests that miR-150-5p has a pivotal role, at least in part, in suppressing MM cell development and progression. Therefore, miR-150-5p may exhibit tumour suppressor function in MM.
